La Commissione non finanzierà direttamente la costruzione di muri ai confini Ue

La replica alla richiesta di 12 Paesi Ue di stanziamenti comunitari per costruire muri al confini

Una dozzina di Stati dell'Ue (Austria, Cipro, Danimarca, Grecia, Lituania, Polonia, Bulgaria, Repubblica Ceca, Estonia, Ungheria, Lettonia e Repubblica Slovacca) hanno scritto l'8 ottobre a Bruxelles chiedendo di finanziare "in via prioritaria" ed in "modo adeguato" le barriere fisiche ai confini, definite "un'efficace misura di protezione nell'interesse dell'intera Ue" e del funzionamento dell'area Schengen. 

Una richiesta di estanziamenti rispedita ai mittenti dalla Commissaria agli Affari interni Ylva Johansson, che dal Consiglio Ue a Lussemburgo, pur non smentendo l'approccio della fortezza Europa ("ogni Paese ha diritto a difendere le proprie frontiere come crede, pur nel rispetto dell'acquis europeo"), ha respinto ogni ipotesi di esborsi comunitari.

L'iniziativa ha trovato invece il sostegno pubblico della presidenza di turno slovena del Consiglio Ue. Il governo italiano si è tenuto ben alla larga dalla proposta dei dodici, preferendo piuttosto sollecitare Bruxelles sulle partnership con i Paesi terzi, in una lettera assieme agli altri componenti del gruppo dei Med5 (Spagna, Malta, Grecia, e Cipro). I cinque paesi respingono anche l'ipotesi di spacchettare il negoziato sul Patto per l'asilo, come proposto dalla presidenza di turno, più attenta agli aspetti della sicurezza che a quelli della solidarietà.
