EU/ENG - The European Parliament's plenary session (8-11 September) opens on Monday afternoon, September 8, in Strasbourg. The most significant event will be Wednesday morning, when European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will deliver the first State of the Eropean Union address of her second term. Her address to MEPs coincides with a challenging time for the EU, amid wars, tariffs, political instability in France, and growing nationalist sentiment in member states. President von der Leyen is expected to deliver a keynote address, followed by a debate with MEPs. Thus, on Wednesday the 10th at 9:00 a.m., “In her address, von der Leyen is expected to outline the impact of the Commission’s work since it started its new mandate, and plans for the future”, the Assembly’s press office stated. “She is set to focus on the global challenges the EU is facing, including EU-US relations, the EU’s continued support for Ukraine in its war against Russia’s aggression, European defence and security, sustainable prosperity and competitiveness, the EU’s twin green and digital transition, and how to protect democracy and core EU values”.
