Schallenberg dagli esteri alla cancelleria in Austria

Con Schallemberg l'Intesa di governo tra Popolari e Verdi è stata confermata, nonostante le dimissioni di Kurz

Alexander Schallenberg, ministro degli Esteri austriaco uscente,  è il nuovo Cancelliere Federale dell'Austria.  Schallenberg  è stato proposto da Sebastian Kurz per succedergli, a seguito delle sue dimissioni di sabato 9 ottobre, rassegnate a seguito dell'inchiesta giudiziaria a suo carico che lo ha travolto.  Tra Schallenberg (OeVP) e i Verdi di Werner Kogler, è stato raggiunto l'intesa, con tanto di dichiarazione congiunta,  per continuare il governo di coalizione anche dopo le clamorose dimissioni Kurz.  Nella dichiarazione congiunta si afferma che "i tanti progetti previsti, come la riforma fiscale ed il bilancio, andranno avanti come previsto".

Schallenberg aveva incontrato il presidente austriaco Alexander van der Bellen a margine del quale il Presidente aveva, nel corso di un accorato discorso alla nazione,  dichiarato: "la crisi di governo è finita" e ringrazia Kurz per le dimissioni: "Ha evitato danni al paese" pur lamentando che la fiducia dei cittadini nelle istituzioni è stata "ancora una volta profondamente scossa" e scusandosi con la nazione per "l'immagine che la politica ha dato" in questi giorni.
