Charles Michel annuncia la candidatura alle europee

Si apre nell'Unione una complessa partita nell'ambito dell'informale processo negoziale dal quale scaturirà il nuovo presidente.

Il presidente del Consiglio europeo Charles Michel in un'intervista del 6 gennaio a Le Soir, La Libre e De Standaard rilanciata da altri portali del Belgio, ha annunciato la decisione di candidarsi alle elezioni europee del giugno 2024, alla guida della lista Movimento Riformatore.

    Dato che il mandato come presidente del Consiglio europeo terminerà il 30 novembre 2024, in caso di elezione a eurodeputato Michel ha chiarito che eserciterà la sua funzione di presidente fino a quando non presterà giuramento come membro del Parlamento europeo, che dovrebbe svolgersi a metà luglio.
    Tuttavia, la decisione sulla nomina del successore è attesa per la fine di giugno o al massimo l'inizio di luglio.  Il Consiglio europeo può quindi anticipare la designazione del successore, prima che presti giuramento, oppure affidarsi a un regolamento che attribuisca il ruolo al presidente del Consiglio dell'Ue. L'Ungheria lo presiederà a luglio con il suo premier Victor Orban, a torto o a ragione, considerato non molto insediabile nella carica istituzionale lasciata vacante da Michel. Di certo, si apre nell'Unione una complessa partita nell'ambito dell'informale processo negoziale sulla nomina a Bruxelles del successore del politico belga.
