Europe chooses Ursula again

Von der Leyen, rinominata per un secondo mandato alla presidenza della Commissione, Costa eletto presidente del Consiglio europeo, Kallas Alto rappresentante

EN - The European Council elects Antonio Costa as the new President. The european leaders proposes Ursula von der Leyen as candidate for President of the European Commission and chooses Kaja Kallas as candidate for High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. 

IT - Il Consiglio Europeo elegge Antonio Costa nuovo Presidente. I leader europei propongono Ursula von der Leyen come candidata alla presidenza della Commissione europea e scelgono Kaja Kallas come candidata ad Alto rappresentante per gli affari esteri e la politica di sicurezza.

Il presidente del Consiglio europeo, Charles Michel, ha ufficializzato su X le scelte del vertice Ue per le nomine dei top jobs. Senza sorprese le indicazioni, come già ampiamente anticipato dai media da giorni. A succedergli il socialista portoghese Antonio Costa. Le indicazioni di Ursula Von der Leyen e Kaja Kallas dovranno essere confermate dal Parlamento europeo nel voto che dovrebbe tenersi il 18 luglio a Strasburgo.

Sei leader europei di diversi gruppi politici, tra cui Scholz e il presidente francese Emmanuel Macron, avevano concordato il pacchetto personale in vista del vertice UE. L'accordo annunciato da Popolari, Socialisti e Liberali martedi 25 giugno ha sostanzialmente tenuto, con il suo significato di messaggio politico in direzione di una continuità dell'argine europeista a qualsiasi velleità neonconfederale delle destre a Strasburgo.

 

Le reazioni

Il primo ministro portoghese António Costa si è congratulato con Ursula von der Leyen e Kaja Kallas per le loro nomine, promettendo il suo impegno a mantenere l'unità tra i 27 Stati membri dell'UE.

Kaja Kallas, parlando a Bruxelles, ha sottolineato la "grande responsabilità" in questo periodo di tensioni geopolitiche, citando la guerra in Ucraina e la crescente instabilità come sfide significative.
Il cancelliere tedesco Olaf Scholz, membro dell'SPD, si è congratulato con Leyen, Kallas e Costa, descrivendo la loro nomina come un'indicazione significativa sulla piattaforma online X.
Il primo ministro italiano Giorgia Meloni ha espresso il suo malcontento per la decisione presa dai sei leader europei in vista del vertice, definendo questo approccio “oligarchico”, considerando l'esclusione del gruppo Ecr che presiede non coinvolto negli accordi.
Nonostante le critiche, la Meloni si è astenuta dal voto sulla nomina di Leyen, votando contro la nomina di Costa e Kallas. Il primo ministro ungherese Orban ha dichiarato pubblicamente la sua contrarietà al pacchetto personale.
Il cancelliere tedesco Olaf Scholz ha sottolineato l'importanza della piattaforma politica di Leyen, che spera continuerà a fornire una guida, guardando in particolare al Partito popolare europeo, ai socialdemocratici e ai liberali al Parlamento europeo.
Con la maggioranza nel neoeletto Parlamento europeo, l'elezione di Leyen è prevista per la prima sessione a metà luglio, anche se i potenziali dissidenti potrebbero presentare difficoltà per garantire la maggioranza assoluta richiesta per la sua elezione. L'aritmetica parlamentare nel rinnovato emiciclo della democrazia europea dovrà garantire la conferma delle nomine indicate.
