EU/EN - Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), the largest opposition party in the Bundestag, should be considered a "far right" party, aka neo-Nazi: this is the conclusion reached by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (internal services), in a 1,100-page report by the federal intelligence services that runs from February 2021 to April 2025. The language and statements of the party are in conflict with the constitutional dictate and the democratic order. The classification as extremist announced on Friday, May 2, authorizes the intelligence agency to "monitor" the AfD, through informants or wiretaps. In addition, public funding to the AfD could be limited by the German parliament. The new Merz government is also considering trying to ban the party, SPD leader Klingbeil said last week.
