Trump extends tariffs deadline

EU/ENG -  The return to US tariffs for countries that have not yet signed agreements was supposed to start on July 9, but will be on August 1. The tariffs suspended since April could affect almost fifty partner countries, primarily those of the European Union. However, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has announced a further extension: the new tariff regime will no longer come into force on July 9, but on August 1, for countries that do not reach an agreement with the Trump administration, except for the possibility of further extensions, which at this point no one can rule out.

The negotiations between European negotiators and the Americans have another three weeks to reach some sort of stable and lasting conclusion. The Europeans appear to be aligned on two fronts, with France insisting on greater resistance to US diktats and Italy and Germany more pragmatically oriented towards quickly closing an agreement, also on the 10% percentage granted by the White House to Great Britain
